Research and Development
Since 2016, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has funded numerous research projects in partnership with the American Modeling Teachers Association (AMTA). Through this work, researchers and educational software developers are designing new instructional technology tools and developer resources for data-based visualization. Our current grant has produced two free smartphone applications: Motion Visualizer, which maps velocity and acceleration, and Magna-AR, which visualizes magnetic fields.
Research Publications
A curated list of research publications on Modeling Instruction™ is available for educators and researchers. The collection includes scholarly articles on Modeling Theory, along with studies and descriptions of Modeling Instruction in high school and college classrooms.
Introducing The Modeling Teacher
In January 2027, AMTA will launch The Modeling Teacher, a peer-reviewed eJournal written by Modelers, for Modelers, about Modeling Instruction. The journal will feature classroom action research, instructional strategies, innovative activities, do-it-yourself apparatus designs, book reviews, and practitioner reflections from educators at every stage of their Modeling journey.
AMTA invites members to contribute to the inaugural issues as authors, reviewers, or editors. A manuscript submission portal will be announced on the AMTA mailing list in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we welcome your input through a brief survey. Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Colleen Megowan-Romanowicz at colleen-tmt@modelinginstruction.org.
