2026 Chemistry II Modeling Instruction – Weber State University – Utah

2026 Physical Science / Physics Modeling  Workshop with Transportation Related Engineering Projects – Iowa State U and Iowa DOT

This workshop is confirmed and will run for summer 2026. 

Dates: June 8 – June 19, 2026 (Online portion begins on April 19th)

Times: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM Weekdays

Note: This is a HYBRID COURSE. The first portion of the course will be offered online starting April 19, with approximately hour-long meetings held twice a week on Sunday and Wednesday evenings to prepare for the in-person portion.

Workshop:  Physical Science / Physics Modeling  Workshop with Transportation Related Engineering Projects

Location: near Iowa State University

Description: The Iowa Iowa DOT and Iowa State University’s Institute for Transportation (InTrans) are offering high school physical science and physics teachers the opportunity to participate in a two-week in-person modeling workshop with transportation related engineering projects.

The workshop participants will

  • Learn effective strategies in Modeling Instruction developed by Arizona State University.
  • Plan and carry out investigations, argue from evidence, and create and evaluate models.
  • Develop classroom strategies to help students develop skills consistent with the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Participate in seminars with transportation experts from the Iowa DOT and InTrans.
  • Collaborate with other educators to develop modeling based and transportation-themed lessons to use in the classroom.
Program Highlights
  • The first portion of the course will be offered online for an hour on Sunday and Wednesday evenings from April 19 to the start of the in-person portion on June 8. Accepted applicants will hear from the instructor on the time and format that works best for the most participants.
  • Mileage will be paid for those who commute.
  • Housing provided in Ames free of charge for those who cannot commute.
  • $2,100, after completing the online and in-person program requirements
  • 5 license renewal credits through Heartland AEA or up to 5 graduate credits from University of the Pacific available.
  • The American Modeling Teachers Association (AMTA) offers all participants 1 year’s worth of access to online resources related to course work.
